Cruise News: R/V G.K. Gilbert
10/5-10/10: Red tide tracking over a 1500 sq. mile area in the Gulf of Mexico off the mouth of Tampa Bay with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Marine Research Lab (St. Petersburg). 10/12-10/24: Assessing sand resources by vibra-coring for a proposed beach renourishment project of Anna Maria Island (south of the mouth of Tampa Bay) with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. 10/25-10/30: Ground-truth sampling from Sarasota to Tarpon Springs and out to 20 nm during a high-altitude, remote, water-color sensing experiment to determine bathymetric algorithm corrections with the Naval Research Lab (Stennis Space Center, MS), the R/V Edwin Link (Harbor Branch Foundation), and the R/V Subchaser (University of South Florida's Department of Marine Science, St. Petersburg). 11/9-11/30: Tracking acoustically tagged sturgeon fish around the mouth of the Suwannee River (in the Big Bend area of Florida's west coast) during their winter migration with the Biological Resources Division of the USGS (Gainesville) and Mote Marine Laboratory (Sarasota). 12/3-12/19: Seismic surveys and vibra-coring of the U.S. Navy Bombing Range in Lake George (100 miles up the St. John's River from Jacksonville, Fla.) to assess potential groundwater leakage caused by bomb crater penetration of the Floridan Aquifer with the St. John's Water Management District Office.
