Clean-Up of Boston Harbor
Geochemist Mike Bothner has been appointed to an Interagency Advisory Committee (IAAC), a subcommittee to the Outfall Monitoring Science Advisory Panel for Boston Harbor and Massachusetts Bay. The panel and subcommittee were recently formed to advise EPA and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection on the monitoring associated with the Boston Harbor clean-up project. The purpose of the subcommittee will be to provide regulatory and scientific perspectives from the various state and federal agencies concerning the harbor clean-up project. When the new outfall in Massachusetts Bay becomes operational in mid-1999, this scientific group will also provide advice if any potential NPDES permit and contingency-plan thresholds are observed and exceeded.
