USGS Display at Dry Tortugas National Park
Dry Tortugas National Park, located 60 miles west of Key West, FL, receives hundreds of visitors each day. In Ft. Jefferson, the main attraction at Tortugas NPS, Interpreter Officer Kelly Bulyis has set up a hands-on display, using limited resources, for children and young adults. The central display is a sandbox with shells and corals. During a visit last November, Chris Reich saw an outreach and public service need. Chris designed and printed a poster called, "What is Sand Anyway?" It tells the story of the origin of carbonate sand with photomicrographs and close-up photos. The poster was presented to Kelly in July for addition to her display. She is delighted. This informative USGS poster will now be seen by more than 100 people daily.
