Grand Canyon Researchers Receive Award
On Wednesday, October 13, at the USGS awards ceremony in Reston, the Grand Canyon Experimental Flood team (several dozen WRD and GD researchers) received a Unit Award for "Excellence of Service" signed by Secretary Babbitt. Director Groat presented the award; Jeff Williams accepted the award on behalf of CMG researchers Roberto Anima, Kristin Brown, Hank Chezar, Dave Hogg, Mike Marlow, Tom Reiss, Dave Rubin, and George Tate, and NGM researcher Rick Stanley, who joined us for sedimentologic investigations. In an e-mail announcement to the awardees, USGS Chief Hydrologist Robert M. Hirsch wrote, "The Experimental Flood was an outstanding moment in the proud history of the USGS. It typified some of the core characteristics of USGS, being highly relevant to society's needs, and both intellectually and physically demanding. It is an extraordinary example of interdisciplinary cooperation in the best tradition of the Survey."
