CMG Researchers in St. Petersburg Receive Senate Commendation
As many of you know, Mark Hansen and Nancy DeWitt of the SPFC worked on finding the H.L. Hunley submarine in Charleston Harbor using remote sampling and sediment analysis. South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond addressed a letter to Chip Groat thanking the USGS for the excellent services performed by Mark and Nancy and the other staff in support of the H.L. Hunley archaeological project. Among numerous admirable things the Senator said in his letter, he stated, "The project to raise the Hunley has set new standards for interdisciplinary approaches to underwater archaeology and is an exemplary display of diverse talents directed toward a single goal.... I am pleased to recognize the role of USGS, Mr. Hansen, and Ms. DeWitt."
