Personnel Training at the Woods Hole Field Center
Last week Laure Wallace, Human Resources Officer for the Geologic Division, Lois Rafalko, Classification Specialist, and Rosetta Alexander, Staffing Specialist from Reston Personnel, visited the WHFC to participate in the WHFC research evaluation panel and to provide some training to the admin. staff in the new automated personnel systems. COHO is a new online software program containing various generic position descriptions that will soon be available to all employees, and OARS is a new online program for applying for government jobs. On March 20th and 21st, Pam Marsters (GD Eastern Region Office) visited Woods Hole and provided some 'teambuilding' training to the administrative staff and Center Chief. The training was based on a new leadership/management tool called DiSC that has been embraced by the Bureau. A few weeks before the training session, each participant answers 28 questions on how he/she behaves at work. During the training session, each participant receives a booklet describing their behavior style within the four DiSC categories: dominance, influence, steadfastness, and conscientiousness. Along with the booklet, they also receive descriptive material concerning what motivates and de-motivates this type of person, what management style is preferred, etc. The training is intended to enhance group communications and more effective work habits. The Woods Hole group wholeheartedly encourages others who have the opportunity to participate in this training.
