Woods Hole Field Center Visitors
On Wednesday, June 21st, Dr. Ko-ichi Nakamura (Geological Survey of Japan) visited Debbie Hutchinson and Bill Dillon (WHFC) to discuss Lake Baikal, gas hydrates, and mid-ocean ridge thermal plumes. Geoff Plumlee, Team Chief Scientist from the Crustal Imaging and Characterization Team, Central Region, and John Gray, from the same team, visited Woods Hole on May 31st to discuss issues of onshore-offshore contamination from mining along the Pacific Rim. Geoff presented a short talk about his fact-finding trip to the Philippines, and John spoke on his work in the western Pacific on mercury contamination. Debbie Hutchinson, Marilyn ten Brink, John Bratton, and Mike Bothner (WHFC) participated in the sometimes-lively discussions about strategies for researching these environmental issues.
