South Carolina/Georgia Coastal-Erosion Project Review
A review of Phase I (1994-1998) and newly developing Phase II of the South Carolina/Georgia Coastal-Erosion Project was held in St. Petersburg on August 1st and 2nd. The Phase I study was conducted by USGS scientists and by a Sea Grant Consortium funded by the USGS. The purpose of the review was to evaluate the management, budget, scientific direction, and results of Phase I to apply to the design of Phase II. The five-member review committee consisted of Jeff List and Dave Twichell (WHFC), Homa Lee (MPFC), Gregg Brooks (Eckerd College-St. Petersburg), and Neal Driscoll (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution). Presentations on the results of Phase I focused on barrier-island studies by the Sea Grant team and on the offshore geologic framework studies by USGS scientists. The review committee addressed a number of additional issues that were raised by the participants. The committee will submit their official report to Terry Edgar, Project Principal Investigator, and to Rick DeVoe, South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium Director, by September 5th of this year.
