West Falmouth Harbor Water Sampling
Marinna Martini (WHFC), a Baywatcher for the Coalition for Buzzards Bay, has been doing weekly water samplings at West Falmouth Harbor. The Coalition is a membership-supported non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration, protection and sustainable use and enjoyment of the irreplaceable bay and its watershed. The Coalition works to improve the health of the bay ecosystem for all through education, conservation, research and advocacy. The Coalition involves volunteers bay-wide-from Westport to Woods Hole-in the collection and analysis of bay water quality in 28 major coves and harbors along Buzzards Bay's shores. Coalition Baywatchers are providing the scientific data needed to fix problems where they exist and protect areas not yet harmed by human activities. Marinna says, "We sample temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and make weather and sea-state observations about once a week through the summer." The sampling is coordinated by the Coalition.
