Gas Hydrates Planning Workshop
A group of researchers from the USGS Gas Hydrate Project attended a major planning workshop to develop gas hydrate studies in the Gulf of Mexico. The workshop, held in Houston on August 9th and 10th, was sponsored by the Chevron Petroleum Technology Company and the Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory and included many industry, government and academic scientists and engineers. Bill Dillon (WHFC) and Tim Collett (Denver) provided briefings on the USGS research. Bill Dillon, Bill Winters (WHFC), and Alan Cooper (Menlo Park) presented poster results of their work. Also attending were Myung Lee (Denver), Debbie Hutchinson (WHFC), Suzanne Weedman (USGS Energy Program Coordinator), and Gene Whitney (Energy Chief Scientist, Denver). Perhaps more significant even than the workshop was a meeting that the USGS gas hydrates group had with Chevron staff on the day before the workshop to continue plans to begin a cooperative research program with Chevron.
