Cheryl Hapke Honored by California Shore and Beach Preservation Association
On November 3rd, Cheryl Hapke received an "Award of Appreciation" from the California Shore and Beach Preservation Association for having organized and led a field trip during the Association's annual meeting. This year's meeting, held November 2nd-4th at the Monterey Beach Hotel in Monterey, was entitled "Preserving Coastal Environments." Cheryl put the field trip together at the invitation of the Association's president. The title of the trip was "Geology and Coastal Hazards of the Northern Monterey Bay." The guidebook, written by Cheryl, has been turned into a web-only USGS Open-File Report (OF 00-438). The half-day trip was so popular that several carloads of people followed a full bus (about 30 participants).
