Presentation at the Plymouth County Detention Center
Beth Schwarzman (WHFC) gave a talk on November 15th to about 20 high-school age boys in an education program at the Plymouth County Detention Center. Beth reported that the boys were one of the most attentive audiences she has addressed. They not only listened politely but also asked good questions, an indication that they were really thinking about the topic, which focused on a comparison of Mt. St. Helens and Kilauea volcanoes. Although their education levels varied widely, they all found something to think about during the slide show. Beth described the phenomenon: "For disaffected kids, school seems like prison. For kids actually in prison, school seems like one of the good things. It was interesting to see the difference."
