Video on Earthquake-Hazard Research in San Francisco Bay Wins Another Award
"Future Quakes: Unlocking the Mysteries of Bay Area Earthquake Faults" won First Place in the News Program category of the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC) 2000 Gold Screen Awards competition. This award comes hot on the heels of a USGS 2000 Shoemaker Communications Award received by the video last fall. "Future Quakes" was produced and directed by Stephen Wessells (Office of the Western Regional Geologist) in close collaboration with Tom Parsons and Patrick Hart (Coastal and Marine Geology Program) and with additional input and support from the Earthquake Hazards Program. The half-hour video aired on commercial television exactly on the 10-year anniversary of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. It has won numerous awards, the most recent being the award from NAGC. The NAGC is a professional network of Federal, State, and local government employees who disseminate information inside and outside government. Each year, NAGC honors those who have made significant contributions to the art and science of communication. In particular, the Gold Screen Awards Competition recognizes the best in film, visual arts, and broadcasting. Winners for the year 2000 will be honored at an awards banquet in Denver on March 8th.
