The USGS was pleased to help with Pinellas County's Second Annual Spring on the Flats Fishing
Tournament on March 23rd. The Pinellas County Environmental Foundation (PCEF) and the St.
Petersburg/Clearwater Area Convention and Visitors Bureau sponsored the tournament. The annual
tournament is a benefit to help manage natural resources throughout Tampa Bay with particular
focus on seagrass habitats. The USGS was invited because of its recent organizing efforts as part
of the Tampa Bay Pilot Project. The USGS combined with NOAA, the University of South Florida,
Florida Marine Research Institute, and other local environmental groups to act as information
sources for the media as part of a pre-tournament gathering held at the Renaissance Vinoy Hotel in
St. Petersburg. Thanks are extended to Kim Haag, Peter Swarzenski, Rita Bowker, Mark Hansen, and
Rene Koenig for help in representing the USGS at the event.
