NWRC Merits Coastal Stewardship Awards
Staff members of the USGS National Wetlands Research Center garnered two Coastal Stewardship
Awards given by the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana to recognize significant
contributions by individuals and groups to save the Louisiana coast. The media award went to
"Explore Coastal Louisiana," a CD-ROM produced by the Center in partnership with the Coastal
Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act Task Force and the Barataria-Terrebonne
National Estuary Program. The Educator award went to a team, which included a center
contractor who created "Louisiana Blues . . . On Sinking Ground." This educational project
introduces students to Louisiana's coastal wetlands and provides hands-on experimental
research. National Honor Society students at Capitol High School in Baton Rouge participated
in the 14-week course.
