The Geologic Division's (GD) Senior Managers held their meeting at the St. Pete Field Center on November 29th through December 2nd, 1999. They met with the Center staff at a brown bag lunch on the 29th and fielded questions on various subjects for a couple of hours before touring the facilities and briefly talking with individual investigators. Those present were Steve Bohlen, Elly Browers, Rama Kotra, Pat Leahy, Jan Morton, Patrick Muffler, Dave Russ, Gene Whitney, and Barbara Wyant. Louie Pectol, Senior Management Officer, also attended.

The GD Ethnic Minority Advisory Committee (EMAC) and Women's Advisory Committee (WAC) also held their Fall meetings in St. Petersburg on November 30th and December 1st. The WAC is a group of 14 women, elected by women in the GD, charged with improving the work environment for all women in the Division by identifying issues and recommending solutions to the Chief Geologist, promoting policies and programs, and improving communication across levels and locations. The EMAC is charged with similar tasks; assisting the Chief Geologist in promoting career development and fair recruitment practices for ethnic minorities. EMAC also promotes cultural awareness and open communication among all GD employees. Members of both committees, headquartered at the Hilton, were here to meet with the GD Senior Managers and to tour the facilities at the St. Pete Field Center. The visit provided an opportunity to broaden the members' understanding of the work environments of women in the Center. The WAC welcomed the St. Pete staff to an open forum held in the upstairs conference room of the Center on December 1st.

EMAC Committee Members present were Elliot Endo, Floyd Gray, Raymond F. Kokaly, Maria Montour, Paul G. Okubo, Shonta Osborne, DaTarsha Roy, Quenton Smith-Costello, Bob Somera, and Ivette Torres.

WAC Members represented the various regions and two Field Centers.

  • Eastern Region: Phyllis Lyday, Harriet Moran, Lydia Quintana, Lee Roberts (chair).

  • Central Region: Maggee Bolger, Zoe Ann Brown, Rebecca Eldridge, Jackie Williams.

  • Western Region: Kathleen Braunstein, Jane Ciener, Quenton Smith-Costello, Paulette Zamora (vice-chair).

  • Field Centers: Cathey MacRall (Albuquerque), Ellen Mecray (Woods Hole).
